All that comes to mind are tired old cliches.... like screw you and F*%K off! .
So today was fun. I had to give a presentation in class. I was discussing regionalism and western alienation. Now, I understand that these are topics that provoke a lot of anger and controversy ... but really! One of the girls in my class got really upset at the end of my presentation and told the professor that he "pissed" her off and that I had no idea what I was talking about because her husband is a fourth generation albertan and that to say that our major exports are grain and oil is completely incorrect. HA! Since when is alberta the leader in the tech industry?!?! Really!?! What the hell!?!? so after about 20 minutes of her standing, arm raised with her finger pointing at me, my professor jumped in and started class agian. I am only really upset because I wasnt given a chance to defend myself.
Again ... with the not being able to defend myslef.
Which brings me to another topic. Since when is it acceptable to completely vilify people without ever confrotning them about the issue. When did it become ok to trash someone's reputation without ever giving them a chance to defend themselves. This is a whole separate issue and one that has apparently been the topic of many discussions for about a month. Apparently, unbeknownst to me, I have been charged, tried and convicted by people I dont know for a crime I never committed. Unfortunately, this information go back to me today and ... well please refer to the subject line for my reply. I was very much under the impression that when I left high school I had left all that crap too .... apparently not.
My new mantra..... "People are dumb"

if I have a problem with you I'll tell you straight to your face. and don't worry, you didn't really need to defend yourself, the women is crazy and you and every other albertan knows that you're right. good work.

Have to side with Wade on this one...I must admit, my life is ever more interesting now that Victoria and I meet for coffee every morning. Man, nothing makes me appreciate FAC and FACers more than her crazy stories.
I have a great difficulty comprehending the "Alberta Alienation" issue...it's one thing to recognize that the west is alienated by the east (wow, for those of you just figuring that out...where have you been for the past hundred years???) but as a born and bred albertan, I also get very frustrated by albertans who talk out of their asses the way she did. Man, I wish I could have been there for that...set the socio-political science whore against the english bitch...we should sell tickets!
It isn't okay to vilify people, ever, whether you've spoken to them or not. People need to start thinking about the consequences of their words and actions. As someone who has fought the rumour mill for upwards of three years, it's enough to drive you insane. At the same time, think of how boring their lives must be if they insist on living in ours.
New mantra: My life is more exciting than yours so NAH!

there are a lot of dumb people out there who are, well, dumb. don't let them bring you down; instead, use them as a step stool to bigger better things.
and there will be times when you won't be given a chance to defend yourself. some people like one-sided relationships/arguments; they like 'win' arguments by being the first one to put their arguments down and then walk away with their fingers in their ears without hearing the opposite side. these are also the type of people who would yell and make a scene.
what i like to do is calmly tell them that being louder doesn't make them right.
